I was bumming around the Great Salt Lake (Utah). I came across this bone like rock. The best way to describe it would be that it looks like a bread stick made of rock...but hollow like an old bone. As well as being rounded on the end it's flat on one side like a bread stick from lying on a baking pan. I'm sure it's flat from lying on the bottom of the lake. It has been broken. The two piece's I found fit together and together it's as long as the average bread stick. So....I hope some one can help me identify what it is. Thank You!!!

Hi! I'm Random Scientist Inc. I'm also from Utah. Were you near Antelope Island when you found it? Because if so, you may have found an old bison bone. Posting a pic would help finalize the classification, though, so could you please post a pic?

I found it closer to the Salt-Air. Where the lake has dried up. I'm not sure how to download a pic to you. I did sign up. I tried to upload some pic's and after an hour it still said it was processing...Maybe I am doing something wrong???

Karie, what may be happening is your pics need to be reduced in pixel size. It is usually done through a photo editing program or can be done in Paint program also. Depending on how your camera is setup as to what pixel count you have. I use Photoscape which is a free and easy to use program for editing. Set your width count to somewhere about 1000-1100. It will be the larger of the 2 numbers to be set. The height should be about 75-80% of the width. This will help them load faster and there is also a maximum size that can be accepted by the website to aid in thier storage of files. And I also always save and send mine in jpeg form. Hope this helps.
