The Hanksville-Burpee Quarry was known to have dinosaurs bones but the dig initiated by the scientists from the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, Illinois has started just recently and led to findings beyond all expectations.
The story is told on the National Geographic news and it seems that the research of the area and the life that it used to inhabit are going to get a big push.
In just three weeks of work on federal land near Hanksville, Utah, paleontologists say they unearthed at least two meat-eating dinosaurs, a probable Stegosaurus, and four sauropods-long necked, long-tailed plant-eaters that could reach 130 feet (40 meters) long, making them the largest animals ever to have walked the Earth.
Sounds like the findings are going to be a source of interest and learning for a very long period.
And on another issue I’ve read an interesting discussion on creationism and dinosaurs at The Great Dinosaur Mystery and the Big Lie and wanted to share it with you.
It seems that the actual research and the philosophical, theological one evolve to the same extent. I found it to be very strange as for me personally the paleontological findings are more than enough to settle the debate that I find many times to be tedious.
Thinking about it I realized that the discussion is there for a very good reason and decided to write a few posts on the debate as part of putting the findings in context.
So... what do you think? Please leave me a comment.
