Is this a trace of a worm ?

This looks like there is something inside the rock, possibly covered with organic matter like barnicles that grew over it in the past or some sort of clayish coating.

It looks like a worm or worm burrows to me. I have some similiar to yours. I had posted a pic of them which should still be in my photo album. They were in some flat pieces of clay from a river bed that had petrified. I have what looks like a shrimp to me in one of them also. Isn`t your area full of worm mounds? It seems like I read somewhere there were many located in Nashville area. Nice crinoid pieces too. What is on the right in pic, coral pieces?

Do some crinoid stems look like shop vac hose?
  • JSpencer says
Yeah they do. I have some that do. But the flower parts have the smaller closer rings. The flower would have a cluster of these small finger like parts that had like a cup at the base of it attaching to the stem which can be found whole or with the discs seperated into individual pieces. But yes that`s a good description is a flex hose on a vac. My first crinoid I ever found to me looked like a tiny backbone and rib section from a bird. And it`s in a metamorphic rock not a sedimentary rock which makes it a little more special I guess.

Maybe someone looked at nature and figured they could make a hose out of it's technology.

    That could be! Laughing
