And here are the fins/legs(they are hard to see but they are on the top in this pic or what would be the creatures left side.)

one of my friends said it looks like a salamander but that is imposible amphibians didn't evolve until the late devonian and the surface rocks around where I live are all ordovician. I would very much appreciate it if someone told me what this could be.

It kind of looks like a salamander. Anything is possible. It could have been thrown by a volcano, or the experts may have the timing wrong. What you see is more important than what someone who has never been to your exact location has stated. Carbon dating is severely flawed and they only test small sections of a large area randomly.

It looks like a trace fossil, most likely a worm burrow.

Cheers!

Trace fossils, Simply trace fossils. Problem is is that we will never know what they exactly were.

I`ve found many rocks over the years with what I know has to be some kind of trace fossil but can`t be identified. I usually collect them anyhow and put large ones in my flower beds. I plan to build a water feature in my backyard and use all of those small interesting rocks in building rock surface and waterfall leading to fish pond. That way I still get to enjoy them and have a unique structure.

You have to post a picture of the completed project JSpencer. I think It will probably take a long time and patients to align the fossils for best show of the features

Yes it will Rickymouse! Don`t look for those pics real soon though. I had just started on the latest remodel in my home when my knee started in on me. Right now I`m in a walking boot with fractures to the tibia and fibia at the knee joint and will need to replace the knee soon. But I`m hobbling along spraying texture and doing what I can manage. It will be at least spring before the pond happens.
