    Pretty nice jspencer, lots of detail on this one. I thought you said you didn;t see much black rock there, looks about the same as the coating on the rocks here. I try to buff that black off.

    What is that black coating anyway? there is usually a calcium base to the rocks after it deteriorates

    I think he got this one mailed to him, But the black comes from the type of mineral the fossil was fossilized in, For instence I find great brown and black fossils. They are all in different shales and time periods though still its really neat! Very Happy

    This one was sent to me from England by a friend. His son works for a quarry there. He inspects the areas to be excavated beforehand to look for any important finds that are visible and then gives the ok to proceed. He and his son also lead a fossil club there and lead some hunts for members and school children. And also a website something like this one.

    Rd, I was given this piece from England and a small belemnite about 1/8 in. dia. and an inch or so long.
