I have found what may be a vertabre. It is black about the size of my thumb. Wider than long. Goes in like a cylinder on each end and has some sort of white hole that goes almost all the way through. It could possibly be a bone from the hand or flipper of a whale but it would have to be a very small one. I am totally puzzled. It is sort of grooved out on each end. Can some one help me. I can send a pic.

Yes, a picture would help in identifying what you have. Please provide a photo.

May I suggest also that you take a couple of views and maybe a coin alongside it to make it easier to judge the size. I`m curious to see what you have found.

Ok its is about the size of a nickle, Sort of oval shaped. Looks sort of like it has the impression of a butterfly on each side. Sounds weird Cameras broke, gotta get my daughters. Found at Myrtle Beach.

Are you sure it's not some sort of ancient money? There was some pretty weird looking stuff in the past, and it was made of various things. Some clay, some shells, some metal. Some metal ones may be fairly corroded and not look like metal, a process of recrystalization may occur.

Its abount an inch tall with cylinder type holes on each end that ends in a point toward the middle at the very end on each top and bottom if sitting straight up. there is a small whiteish spot in the middle of top and bottom where it looks kind of bored out. The butterfly looking impression is on each side sort of carved out .Whatever it is is black but under butterfly looking impression it looks likesome white showing, also in the top and bottom where it is going into a point inside you can see white spot. The best way I can bescribe the top and bpttom is it looks like a funnel going inward where at the very inside is a white spot. The top and the bottom almost met in the very middle but outside stays the same height.

That's too much info to try to visualize, I've always had a mind that can take things apart to visualize their structure, but it's not to hot on assembling written data into a visual image. It doesn't seem like it's indian money, but it could be man modified or natural ancient life. Translated, it means it could be an artifact or fossil or bone. Need a picture posted.

Those are some neat pictures, a little blurry, I think I see carvings but it may be a vertebrae also. I wish the pictures were clearer though. I tried to load them but I can't seem to find them even though they are on my desktop. There's never a geek around when you need one

Rickymouse, try clicking on your start button and looking under "My Documents". If not there it may be under "recent downloads" file. Or if needed forward the e-mail to me and I`ll try it from here. I forgot to mention that the lady awhile back who thought she had found some bones and couldn`t seem to post them ended up sending her pics to me. She actually had some large chunks of coral mixed in with the fill someone hauled to her. Some nice pieces but not the bones she had hoped for.
