My 12 year old daughter recently read Raptor Red by Robert T. Bakker and really enjoyed it as did I after she talked me into reading it. Does anybody have any suggestions of other books along this line. Specifically a novel that takes place in any time before man and is filled with science fact (or at least reasonably informed speculation).
The absence of 'cartoon dinosaurs' in Raptor Red was refreshing as was realistic sounding descriptions of the overall environment. I'm sure that some on this list may quibble about some of the facts of some of the scenes, but for the layman like me (and my daughter) they were quite entertaining and informative. Also the reading level was probably about right (Jr High or so).
Thank you.

you might try 'clan of the cave bears' by jean auel not sure how much science there is but it is a compeling story. Bakker also wrote a wondeful non fiction book on the dinosaurs maybe 'dinosaur heresies' that was wonderful.
