Hey JSpencer. The uncoiled ammonites are heteromorphs and baculites. I have collected both. Not many photos on the web but quite a few in the fossil groups on facebook. Google Hornby Island ammonites and use the key words listed. I'll also post some photos.

    Cheers!

They are different subclasses and orders. Ammonites and Endocerids lived in different eras (Ammonites were prevalent during the Mesozoic and Endocerids during the Paleozoic). There are millions of years between them. It is a mistake to call them squids, albeit a common one, as squids are relatively new (geologically that is Very Happy ). Ammonites are not like gastropods except for being in the same Phylum, Mollusca. Cephalopods are way smarter than gastropods, too Smile Uncoiled ammonites are so awesome! Have you ever found any, Fossil Huntress?

I've posted a picture of Nostoceras hornbyense from Hornby Island. I've collected specimens from there. The photo of the one shown I only have as a cast. It was collected by a friend of mine.
