Fossil Fuels?

I know this sounds Stupid, but do fossil fuels come from fossils? and how does it work?

Fossil fuels are fossil source fuels,hydrocarbons found within the top layer of the earths crust. It is generally accepted that they formed from the fossilized remains of plants and animals and exposed to heat and pressure over millions of years within the earths crust. It's known as the biogenic theory and introduced by :Mikhail Lomonosov in 1757.
