Hi,

I have a strong interest in fossils and dinosaurs since I was 5 years old. Looking for articles about the recent researchs of meteorites that supposedly killed the dinos I came with a question when looking at the aerial map on the TV weather programs. Some proofs have been found in geological formations and from analyses of the rocks surrounding forms ( like the Yucatan meteorite) found in the continents anywhere around the world, that meteorites left marks on the ground. For example, the Manicouagan region in Quebec that is a round region or rock surrounded by water that was made by a meteroite 206 Ma ago and have a circonference of 45 Km. It form an almost perfect rounded shape viewed from the sky.

When I look at weather maps on TV and see the gigantic round cut in the upper part of the Quebec province I wonder if it was made in such a way. If you look on a map you'll find this region going from Inoucdjouac to Port-à-la-Baleine ( 55-58 North, 80 West) making a perfect rounded shape having near its center, in the Hudson Bay, the Belcher Islands. It's about 6 times bigger than the Manicouagan shape.

Does somebody know if there was any study or research made in that area that could explain this shape in the continental area ?

You might have more luck posting in one of the geology newsgroups.

Of course you're right. I first looked to find some and didn't. That's why I posted it here just in case someone knew about such a research. I found two geology newsgroups this morning.

Thanks

Denis

Go to GOOGLE and search for 'astrobleme' (the term most often used for these ancient impact craters) and it turns up over 850 references! Knock yourself out!
