    Hi Dorothy,
I Had a nice time on the Jurassic Coast,I found an ammonite with a tooth embeded in it .I think the tooth may be from an Icthyosaur.
It must have broken of while the ammo was being eaten.
I also found a nice piece of bone at Seatown!!!

    Wow!! I'm jealous Shocked

Thanks Dorothy,I know when I preped the ammo I couldnt beleive it,the broken tooth was on top of the ammo and the tip of the tooth was like I said embeded in the ammo, amazing.
Though to bring it all back to earth the centre was missing so all I can suggest is that when the ammo was in the mouth of the icthyosaur it must have been chewed out then..........ok maybe icthyosaurs didnt chew but you know what im talking about.
I will put some photos on this this tab so you can see what I am on about.Watch this space......

Amazing view, Dorothy!! I really find it amazing!! Very Happy

I'm a little curious, though. Why is it referred to as the "Jurassic Coast?" Is it because of the Geology or recreation of what the Jurassic may have looked like? Confused

Raptor - Geological reasons. Wiki says
"The Jurassic Coast consists of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous cliffs, spanning the Mesozoic Era, documenting 180 million years of geological history. "

    Hi Raptor Lewis ,
It would be more appropriate to call it the Mesozoic Coast I suppose.
Yes you can find some dino remains but it is predominately marine sediments.
The best place to find dinosaur remains in the UK is in The Wealden sediments In South East England and the famous Weald deposits on the Isle of Wight ,both early Cretaceous. You may have already known that any way.
  • Raptor Lewis says
True, Kenobi. The "Mesozoic Coast" would be a better name.

    Hmm...So, mostly marine sediments? Cool!!

    Cool Tidbit, Kenobi!!

    Hi Raptor Lewis ,
I often visit the Jurassic ccoast as my family originates from that area.
My grandparents used to live in a place called Lulworth Cove.
It was while while on my visits that I got hooked on fossil collecting and I have been doing it now ever since.
I absoulutely love the area ,to me it is the best place in the UK to find fossils apart from the Isle of Wight .
