my whole problem with creation / evolution has nothing to do with the Bible, so much as it has to do with mathematics.
If we, as a society, believe against incest because our ancestors believed the same way (based upon 'taboos' caused by too much inbreeding and decreased / ceased lineages), then let's start looking at one person's parentage in terms of numbers:
one child = two parents = 4 grandparents = 8 great-grandparents (etc.)
ok... now, let's take a simple question like: how many ancestors did I have back, say, 50 generations ago? (roughly 1000 years.)
back one generation = 2^1, two generations = 2^2, three generations = 2^3, etc, so 2^50 = a mere 2^50 = 1,125,899,906,842,624 different parents needed to create just ONE individual today. I believe (in USA terms) that's One Quadrillion, 125 Trillion, 899 Billion, 906 Million, 842 Thousand, 624 different ancestors.
And that's only 1000 years back.
If we go 2000 years back, to the time of Christ (more or less), or simply back 100 generations, we get: 2^100 = 1.267650600228229e+030 which equals something like: 2^100 = 1267650600228229000000000000000 or, with commas: . 2^100 = 1,267,650,600,228,229,000,000,000,000,000 different ancestors.
So, if we go back to the time reckoned in the Bible as the time of creation, roughly 5,000 years BC or so? who knows? we can easily see that SOMETHING is rotten in Denmark (no offense to Danes)!
There must be some rather inexplicable forces at work here. Not to mention one HECK of a lot of inbreeding!!!
Now, just take those numbers and try multiplying them by 4.5 billion or so, whatever the world's population happens to be, and we quickly see that this theory proves either: 1) a lot of people have died that we never knew anything about and have no evidence of, OR 2) we really ARE just one big family, with LOTS of brother/sister, father/daughter, mother/son pairings way back in the shadows which we simply were not told about.
by the way, what's the unit of measure over Octillion? Latin prefix for Nine?
