To all on the group:

Merry Christmas, or Honnukah, or Ramadan, or just seasons greetings as your faith goes.

It had never really occured to me that a real population might decide to go extinct but I just read an article in NYT that said that in many countries the birth rate was less than the 2.1 needed for replacement. In at least one it was 1.1. In the U. S. it is 2.O even with many people coming into the country. In time these beings will be replaced by others with a better adapted culture or genes.

I wonder how future researchers are going to explain these replacement

The last ones were passed off as cultural shock. i.e. the indigenous peoples of Tasmania. In itself a population reversal is a good thing in an advanced society where once person consumes as much as a whole village in the third world. The problem is the mentality of politicians who insist that numbers should go up (to pay for their own old ages I think). The ones that are happening now could very well result in civil wars because the new arrivals do not assimilate and as their numbers grow so does the friction. I'm talking about the Europeans who are shrinking and the non-europeans who are being brought in to bulk up the numbers. Even here in Canada there is growing resentment of a government policy made with no input from those who are being diluted.
