I would tend to think that science is advanced enough as of 2001 to be able to put some sort of marker or gauge or fingerprint on fossils of the fossil record that would tell us
How large the oceans were and how salty the oceans were during
Cambrian Ordov. Silur. Devon. Miss. Penns. Permian
Triassic Jur. Cret.
Tertiary Quartenary
And some sort of measuring device to tell us how large the oceans were in Precambrian and how much salt those oceans contained.
I find it extremely difficult to believe that scientist do not have some method of attempting to pinpoint the volume of water of oceans and the percentage of salinity throughout Geological Time.
