In Krasiejów (sothern Poland) there are sediments of triassic age. In last few years a lot of amphibians (like Metoposaurus diagnosticus) and reptilians (like Paleorhinus sp) have been found. A few bones have been diagnosed as of dinosaur. Than some bones (found in 2000) in the collection were diagnosed as bones of twenty dinosaurs of a new species. Soon their description will be in 'Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology'. And the dinosaur that is mayby the oldest one in the world will be named Silesaurus opolensis. P.S. I've got a lot of materials concerning it but they are in Polish so if you have some questios you can ask me, I can also send ome photos of it. And, of course, sorry for my English.

Dawid, Sounds very interesting. Are there any clues as to how big this dinosaur was, or what kind of dinosaur they have? Ornithischian?, sauropomorph?, theropod? Are the names of any of the authors of the JVP article known?

Dawid, WOW. The artist's rendition (of what Silesaurus supposedly looks like) is rather 'birdy' looking. Makes it almost look like it has a beak. The length of the arms and the quadrupedal stance would bode well for BCF, but it is just one artist's idea, and I don't know how complete the remains are. I wish I could read Polish. I am wondering if the 90 cm. measurement is of body length or refers to something else. I am amazed that there is so little internet discussion on this amazing fossil find. Very exciting.

Hm. Remember, we can't always trust artistic reconstructions. Consider the Gastornis life reconstruction in Witmer & Rose 1991.

Perhaps it is because the information is under 'embargo' =)

Agreed.

I was amazed the incredibly improbable discovery of a dinosaur mummy from a wet enviroment wasn't discussed much (it certainly confused me and one of my professors). It seems most of the discussion in this group is more evolution-oriented.

Neat. Can someone tell me where to find stuff about this? And don't all respond 'Google!'. I just don't have time at the moment to go Googling.

Dear All, Google.com is so easy to use, I thought anyone could easily find the link (I really love google). In any case, the artist renditions (and an article, in Polish) of Silesaurus can be seen here: http://www1.gazeta.pl/wyborcza/1,34471,1079221.html     If Dzik thinks this is closest to Pisanosaurus, I am wondering what ornithischian characteristics it has (possibly a slot for a small predentary bone??). Need to find out the Polish word for predentary or predentate.       Jerzy Dzik is actually best known for his work on invertebrate fossils (especially 'problematica' that are difficult to place in known invertebrate phyla). Very knowledgable, but since he pushes the envelope, his ideas are often controversial or even ignored (so I always pay close attention when I see his name pop up). But I really need to learn some scientific words in Polish (although I'm sure the paper in JVP will be in English).

Well, the 90 cm mentioned concernss the lenght and widh of a square each student was to dig to be sure to find everything. It have nothing to do with dinosaur's mesurments. In the articule it is mentioned that the dinosaur was probably the size of a sheep-dog or a bernandin dog.

Hmm... I can't read polish, so I don't know what any of the other stuff means, but it looks alot like normal reditions of prosauropods. The head reminds me of a small therapod... yeah, I'm gonna go look for an account of this in English...

Couldn't find anything.

I did find an online Polish translator, though. ( www.poltran.com )

Here's what it spit out when I inputed the main body of words.
