Are you looking for the first by a select breed of humans called paleontologists or regular human inhabitants that knew they were there and they were good for the garden? I'm sure lots have been found throughout the ages by humans before and probably named. Did Columbus really discover america?

What was the first date the name "paleontologists" was created, that would be the date of their first find as paleontologists, since dinosaur hunters named themselves at that point. Dinosaurs have been known of for thousands of years by humans, and I think even ancient romans studied them. Mostly for the shapes and minerals they contained though. Can you imagine how the dinosaur skulls with teeth strategically placed around an area would have scared people in ancient times?
